Which stride rite stores are closing

Payless ShoeSource appears to be headed towards bankruptcy. Wolverine owns Chaco and a couple of other well-known brands. It hasn't been announced that the brands are ending, but a number of storefronts for all of the brands I've mentioned are closing as they try to strengthen their omnichannel offerings.

My point to my vent isif you have a particular shoe that you must own with these brands, stock up. It's unclear how all of this is going to play out in the marketplace. I love their shoes for the boys! This may explain why. All i can think of is Forrest Gump.

I can't remember if he actually had stride rites, but that is the era I associate with them. I remember my mom marching us all in for shoes once a year. We had to make those pricey shoes last! Aww, that's too bad. It was one of the only places I could find wide shoes for my daughter when she was little.

Thanks for the heads up. Chaco sandals are the best for my flat feet, and I need a new pair. Now it's going to be 2 or 3! I loved their washable gym shoes when my kids were younger. They held up so well. The store near us closed a couple of years ago. It always seemed to have a good amount of customers but I guess it wasn't enough.

My son's first shoes were 5. He needed the XXW option there until he was about 4. Generations of customers. Alfano's Stride Rite is a family business. Alfano's children and grandchildren have worked or currently work in his stores. And they have served generations of families through the years. Alfano said customers are saddened by the news, which started to spread when his going-out-of-business sales began a week ago.

They don't believe it. Nick Alfano Jr. Tiera Liggins of Saginaw was shopping at the downtown store July Her oldest son is nearly 11, and she's been a regular customer for years, she said. Tammy Morgan, 41, of Saginaw, was looking for school shoes. The mother of three has been an Alfano's customer for years. But, now, I guess not. The Alfanos said they would like to thank their customers for many years of loyal patronage, "for all the years that they've given us, put their faith and trust in our service.

And it continues through the family," the senior Alfano said. She can be reached at or hjordan mlive. For more news, follow her on Twitter. Join Date Sep Posts 2, We lost a local kids shoe store a couple years ago and I really miss it. I never had luck with the Stride Rite associates but the ones at our local store were great with fit and which brands worked best for different types of feet.

Now the only place we have for kids shoes is Nordstrom and the selection is limited. I now measure kids feet myself and buy online but there is a lot of buying multiple sizes and returning.
